About The New Leaf
For 30 years The New Leaf has proudly served Hampton Roads in delivering the finest fresh cut flowers. We are steeped in rich tradition and also enjoy the challenge of stepping into the unknown. Our knowledge of protocol for religious traditions and non-sectarian occasions gives our customers confidence in knowing that we will do it right! Through our use of sustainable flowers, plants, mosses, twigs, branches rocks and shells, we design custom arrangements with gratitude and joy.
We take pride in our friendships and contacts with local vendors and professional services such as caterers, wedding & event planners, custom bakers, jewelers, faux florals, event rentals, DJ’s and bands. We delight in sharing these valuable references with our customers.
The New Leaf imports flowers from around the world and is happy to support local growers from Ivor, the Eastern Shore, the Peninsula, Virginia Beach… and our own garden.
MEET THE TEAM
Born and raised in Richmond, Virginia, Sarah grew up in a family where flowers and parties were cherished and enjoyed. Sarah moved to Norfolk in 1987 and literally turned over a new leaf, thus the name of the flower shop. Together with her love of flowers and people she creates unique designs that capture the special moments in her customer’s lives. Sarah creates and oversees the beautiful floral designs that are our signature and have been for 30 years! In her free time Sarah loves to read, travel, and play golf.
A native of Norfolk, Laurel graduated from Granby High School then received a Bachelor of Arts degree from VCU in Richmond and a Masters of Fine Arts from Old Dominion University. She joined with The New Leaf to bring the art of museum archival framing to The New Leaf. The two owners merged and created The New Leaf & Quarberg Gallery. After five years Laurel was more enthused about the floral side of the business, thus she closed the gallery to focus on the The New Leaf - the unusual in floral design. Today Laurel runs the administrative and marketing side of the flower shop. In her free time Laurel enjoys fishing, boating, and travel.
Jeremy has been a member of our New Leaf family since 2011. Today we are proud to have him as our manager. He is not only a talented designer but also has a green thumb and takes care of all of our exotic plants. He is well versed in all aspects of our floral business from design to delivery. A native of Norfolk, Jeremy grew up in the house beside our shop in West Ghent. We were proud in 2014 when he won a scholarship via Teleflora, one of the leading National Floral Associations, to attend a week of intensive floral design training at their headquarters in Oklahoma City.
The 2018 AIFD Symposium was held in Washington DC. International award-winning designers are invited each year to create spectacular designs. Jeremy was selected to be a part of the backstage team that assists these remarkable designers.
